Art You Gotta Sea

If you didn't get a chance to attend the opening of the 'Illustrating the Sea' show at Mystic Seaport in Connecticut, hop on your schooner, jump in your sub or steer onto I-95 and check it out. Some of the most awe-inspiring, original nautical art you'll ever see by some of the world's most important illustrators. It's a veritable who's who of American illustrators -- from Randall Enos to Jack Davis, Brad Holland to Lou Brooks, Guy Billout to R.O. Blechman, Siegfried to Roy (oops -- hang on a minute -- wrong show). Got some dough burning a hole in your pocket? All the original, one-of-a-kind pieces are available for purchase. For more info, point your web browser to http://mysticseaport.org/shop/su-exhibit.cfm

Face Time

Okay, fine. You're an art director, we've worked together for years, but we've never actually MET face to face. Well, here I am. Note: This photo is NOT actual size!

Going Postal

From 747 pilots to gerbils, animal Gods to butter knives in light sockets, Bob talks it up during a live online chat with the Washington Post. Learn more about his career, and ... er ... life.

Read it now.

In The Pink!

What are you waiting for? Hop on the bus and join the fun as the pig rock band takes off on tour. At every concert: "Fans clap. Fans cheer. It's the pig rock band they love to hear." Rhythmic text and humorous, bold illustrations in eye-popping colors convey the thrill of going on the road with the pig rock band. Young fans (and older ones, too) get to experience everything from jamming on stage to signing autographs to driving off to the next gig. Story by Melanie Jones, illustrated by Bob Staake. Published by Viking Children's Books. Order Book Now!

Bob-by-Numbers

Ever go into a thrift store and find one of those paint-by-number canvases depicting a babbling brook, a duo of flamingoes, or a wistful Jesus looking skyward? Well, we haven't seen too many of 'em around either -- and certainly not at thrift store prices. That's because paint-by-numbers are strangely popular, though we're not even going to venture a hypothesis why. Now imagine you sitting their on your butt, mouse in palm, eyeballs glued to the screen. Wanna digitally "paint" some Bob Staake illustrations? Well, now you can! Our pals at Segmation have worked their magic on over 10 Bob images, breaking them down to outlines and assigning numbers to their colors. Click a color, then click the corresponding number - and voila -- you'll be addicted in no time! Have fun and click here

Bob Shop More Bobalicious Than Ever

Our Bob Shop has been re-designed, re-coded and stocked with new products. From mousepads to t-shirts, snowglobes to frisbees, baseball caps to clocks -- you're sure to find the perfect Bob product for friends, family or anyone else in between. Forget the hassle of shopping at to your local mall this holiday season, shopping at the Bob Shop couldn't be easier. Heck, you don't even need to wear clothes to shop here (though it helps if you have an Internet connection and a mouse). Take a look.

Fresher, Flashier and More Fabulous

If you've been paying attention, you've no doubt realized that we're undergoing a major facelift here at BobStaake.com. After five years of letting our art sit here and rot, we're adding more illustrations (a HELL of alot more) within our portfolios. Both the Digital Bob and Normal Bob portfolios are completely restocked with hundreds of new examples. Check 'em out.

Irregularly Yours

Read The Sporadic Bob!

The Sporadic Bob is our online newsletter for clients and visual aesthetes. We publish it irregularly -- which means 'whenever we damn well feel like it'. Read the current newsletter, and if you're an art director, editor or art buyer, be sure to subscribe!

Greta Takes The Cake!

There's only one thing Bob likes more than cake, and that's when his art is used to decorate one. Here's his littlest fan, Greta (of the Pennsylvania Gretas) looking a little mystified at her birthday cake -- all BEE-decked with page two art from Bob's 'Little ABC Book' (save the stinger for us, Greta!). Her mother Amy also sent us a pic of Greta (a little younger) reading 'My Little Colors Book' -- though she's clearly disappointed that the pages aren't covered in buttercream frosting.

Bitchy, Bitchy!

The art of alienation, illustrating a yak rom memory, and the silliness of being paid to draw cartoons -- Bitchblog asks, and Bob answers.

MADdening List

From the 'And I Thought I Was Anal-Retentive' Department: MAD fanatics are, well, FANATICS (not that that's a BAD thing).

Everytime Bob's soggy little brain can't remember how many times he's appeared in MAD, he just checks this list. Let's take a look-see. Hmmmmm. There he is! Right between Jack Davis and Carol Lay (wait a minute, that didn't sound right)
